Apple's next-generation MR Vision Air could launch as early as 2027.
On September 3, Kuo Ming-chi published a blog post revealing that Apple is planning to launch a lighter-weight headset called Vision Air in 2027, aiming to address the current issues of weight and high pricing associated with the existing Vision Pro headset.
Kuo Ming-chi revealed that Apple will redesign the Vision Pro headset, with a primary focus on enhancing comfort and controlling costs. The key improvements will center around significantly reducing weight and lowering the price.
In terms of weight, the Vision Air is expected to be more than 40% lighter than the Vision Pro (600 grams), meaning its weight could drop to around 360 grams.

Regarding pricing, Ming-Chi Kuo says the price drop will exceed 50%. Based on the Vision Pro's starting price of $3,499 (approximately RMB 24,964), the Vision Air could begin at around $1,500 (about RMB 10,702 at current exchange rates). While this still remains higher than competitors like the Meta Quest 3, which starts at $500, installment payment options may help boost consumer interest in making the purchase.
To achieve such significant cost reductions, Apple may need to streamline its hardware configurations, with potential measures including reducing the number of cameras, adopting lower-resolution displays, or even eliminating the EyeSight external screen feature altogether. Ming-Chi Kuo believes the key challenge for Apple will be striking the right balance—how to cut costs while still delivering an experience that closely rivals the Vision Pro.
From a market perspective, Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the Vision Air will ship 1 million units by 2027, significantly surpassing the current model’s under 400,000-unit performance. This projection underscores Apple’s strong confidence in the market appeal of the lighter-weight version, as the company aims to expand the user base for its MR headset by optimizing both price and weight.
